AOF

The Air Ops Flying (AOF) section supports, organises and coordinates Air Ops related activities within the 7 nation EAG.  The AOF area is staffed by aircrew from a variety of European nations military fast jet and transport aircraft.  The Area engages in a variety of roles, projects and provides specialist advice and support across the wide range of activity within the EAG.

Current AOF activities include:

  • Advanced Training & Exercise Master Plan (ATMP): Near and long term exercise coordination and discussion forum.
  • Garlic Lemon: A Technical Arrangement (TA) for operational units to access the Low Flying Systems (LFS) of each other’s country, sensibly reducing related times to operate. Because the project is a bilateral agreement between GBR and FRA it was handed over by the EAG to the Participants Nations, in 2011, who will be considered  responsible for any future developments.
  • Eurofight: A TA providing an agreed multilateral framework for Air Defence Training amongst participating nations. The TA is reviewed every year by AOF to enable Nations and POCs to have updated National Appendixes with all participating Squadrons data. The Project continues to develop, enhanced by National POCs to improve the quality of EUROFIGHT, in relation to the changeable scenarios.
  • AACMI:  Development, standardisation and integration of Autonomous Air-Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation (AACMI) pods;
  • Alternate Airfields Project: covering the use, booking and scheduling of Alternate Airfields (AAs).
  • Air to Ground Training: Project analysis and giving squadron force level planners the ability to provide affordable and valuable Combined A/G training for their assets.
  • European Typhoon Expeditionary Air Wing (ETEAW): development of a concept, related to Typhoon, that shares assets, standards, training and information.
  • Air Surface Integration Lessons:  A project to conduct a study into Afghanistan Air Surface Integration (ASI) Lessons Learned with an aim to identify specific issues that could be in a multinational EAG forum leading to practical results within the training and force generation arenas.
  • VOLCANEX: provides manpower for definition, planning, execution and evaluation phases of EAG exercises, as required;
  • Other Ongoing Activities: Air Ops research, seminars, augmentees on NATO exercises, EUROCONTROL liaison.
