Air to Ground Training

Picture1

It is well known that current operational scenarios in which our Air Forces are involved are shifting from a mix of Air-to-Air (A/A) and Air-to-Ground (A/G) missions towards a more single role: the support to Land Forces. A/G skills are becoming more and more of a necessity and the ability to provide better training opportunities represents a significant challenge for national Air Staffs.

The aim of the EAG A/G Training project is to enhance interoperability among the seven nations Air Forces, leading to improved performance in a multinational force scenario, by giving squadron force level planners the ability to provide affordable and valuable Combined A/G training for their assets including:

  • COMAO
  • CAS
  • RANGE
  • Low Level.

In order to progress with the project the EAG has hosted the first dedicated meeting on 24th June 2010. Subsequent discussions highlighted individual national efforts were already well apportioned and there was no immediate value in taking the project forward. The project was cancelled in June 2011.

However, the AOF section continues to be fully engaged in Air to Ground training issues and actively participates and engages in multi national forums and projects. In Oct 2012, the AOF section will facilitate and provide multinational live CAS training as part of the VOLCANEX 12 exercise in Vouzier, France.
