AVMED TA
EAG AVMED TA
In 2001 the first Aviation Medicine meeting was held chaired by the EAG to enhance the ability of member nations to work together. As a result, a Technical Arrangement concerning Air Force activities in the field of Aviation Medicine (AV MED TA) was signed in 2005.
The objective of the Technical Arrangement (TA) is to provide a multi-national framework to promote and facilitate collaboration and co-operation between the Participants’ air forces in the field of Aviation Medicine through acceptable arrangements. The domains of the co-operation are detailed in its Annexes.
The field of Aviation medicine is a specialisation in human medicine. It contains the preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects that result from the physiological and psychological requirements and effects onto the human body in the three-dimensional and aeronautical environment. Aviation medicine defines and manages the aero medical requirements for aviation personnel, evaluates the medical risks for flight passengers and works out the standards for qualified aero medical evacuation. Ergonomics and human factors research and its application contribute to health, fitness and safety for all persons flying in an aeronautical environment to guarantee mission performance and effectively improve personal protective equipment to guard, maintain and restore aircrew health.
The provision of the NATO SOFA and the PfP SOFA apply to all activities conducted under this TA, which will be applied in accordance with national laws and existing agreements between the Participants.
This TA will be commonly referred to as the “AV MED TA”.
At the 15th and 16th Aviation Medicine Coordination Board (AV MED CB) meetings held both during 2008, amendments to some of the Appendices to the Annexes to the AV MED TA were approved. The amendments are oriented to adapt the Appendices to the current situation, especially as a result of all the experience gathered during the last four years regarding the Advanced Aviation Medicine Course, which has successfully completed four consecutive editions. In particular, the amendments are to:
Appendix 1 to Annex A, “AV MED CO-ORDINATION BOARD MEMBERS”
Appendix 2 to Annex B, “EAG ADVANCED AVMED COURSE MODULES ASSIGNMENT”
Appendix 3 to Annex B, “EAG ADVANCED AVMED COURSE CONTENT OF MODULES”
Appendix 4 to Annex B, “COURSE CRITIQUE FORMS”
The AV MED TA, together with Annexes and Appendices is available on the EAG website and we would encourage its use by all EAG members.
