The POL Interoperability Publication

New Picture (10)The document’s objective is to promote and facilitate cooperation and mutual understanding between EAG nations in the POL. It will contain 6 annexes, providing a list of general POL information on EAG nations. The document is designed to be a simple reference guide and identifies a nation’s ability to deliver fuel support.
The Fuel Arming Refuelling Procedures (FARP)
On 9 October 2007, a FARP Workshop and Demonstration was held at MoD Stafford (UK), hosted by the RAF’s Tactical Supply Wing (TSW).  Representatives from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the EAG attended the meeting, which focuNew Picture (11)sed on tactical refuelling for helicopters (disregarding the arming aspects), and was based on TSW’s capabilities and procedures for forward refuelling. The OC of TSW HQ Sqn briefed how TSW is organized, its facilities, capabilities and its commitments. TSW also displayed the assets they use to deliver fuel under different tactical situations. As a follow up to the FARP Workshop and Demonstration, the various national operating procedures were collated as the basis for further work for interoperable operations in the future. This event helped to revitalize the Fuel Support Project by updating the EAG POL Information Publication and by further developing the concept of Multinational POL, based on a mix of single national capabilities for the each specific different function of the tactical fuel supply process; such as distribution, BFI, bowser pool, quality assurance and FARP.

CJPRSC-FARP ACTIVITY (RAPID REFUELLING OPS)

DSCN0441 - CopiaFollowing the results achieved during VOLCANEX 09, the EAG proposed the way ahead to improve interoperability in the Fuel area, such as drafting common EAG SOPs and/or a Technical Arrangement for Fuel activities. The EAG agreed with Nations to conduct a specific activity on Hot Refuelling integrated in the Combined Joint Personnel Recovery Course (CJPRSC), which was conducted in Germany in September 2010. This course provided an excellent opportunity for Rapid Refuelling trials with the participation of 12 Rotary Wing assets over 8 flying days; three Nations (GBR, ITA and NLD) committed personnel and FARP assets (with the HN support provided by DEU). For the first time, EAG combined teams operated together testing common procedures and delivering real support to the CJPR players. Notwithstanding that some flying and refuelling activity were cancelled due tDSCN0437copiao poor weather conditions, the FARP teams delivered 31 HOT/COLD tactical refuels. As a consequence of the activity, important interoperability goals were achieved and relevant lessons were identified to be included in the EAG SOPs.  A post course Meeting was held at the EAG HQ on 14/15 December 2010; Minutes of the Meeting are available at the the link – Minutes of the Post CJPRSC FARP Activity Meeting.

A Meeting was held on 3 March 2011 to discuss the 2011 CJPRSC FARP activity which will take place in Spain in Autumn 2011; Minutes of the Meeting can be found at the link.
