In association with the EAG’s Interoperability on Future Combined Air Operations Task (IFCAO), three staff from the EAG HQ observed the Spanish air defence exercise “Dissimilar Air Combat Tactics 2017” at Gando AB, Gran Canaria, Spain on 24 and 25 January 2017. The main purpose of the EAG visit was to identify and assess the interoperability issues arising from the combined operation of dissimilar aircraft types and also to scope the suitability of the DACT for enabling future EAG work. The combined Exercise involved assets from the Ejercito Del Aire (Spanish Air Force) and the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) and was hosted by No 46 Wing of the Mando Aereo de Combate. The flexibility extended by the hosts and participants enabled the EAG staff to gain an in-depth understanding of the interoperability challenges and opportunities involved, which will now be applied during the future development of the EAG’s IFCAO task.
