On 10 and 11 March 2020, the European Air Group and the Belgian Force Protection Division hosted a forum on Air Mobile Protection Team (AMPT) at the 1st Wing, Beauvechain Airbase. The purpose of this forum was to allow AMPT Subject Matter Experts to exchange information and strengthen their professional network, and to allow EAG to assess the requirement to review, update or expand the existing EAG AMPT Manual. The AMPT is composed of Force Protection (FP) aviators, whose role is to ensure the safety and security of a military aircraft, aircrew, passengers and cargo.
Subject Matter Experts from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom met to brief their national developments, share operational and training experiences and express current challenges and concerns in this capability area. Representatives from the European Air Transport Command, and from the Heavy Airlift Wing, a Strategic Airlift Capability unit which is based in Pápa, Hungary, presented on AMPT within their organisations. The Belgian AMPT provided both a static display and a live demonstration at the on-base training facility.
All participants agreed that the EAG FP Forum was ideal to get a better understanding of other nations’ capabilities and challenges, and to build an international network within the Air FP community.
