As part of a new initiative to explore interoperability aspects of air launched cruise missiles (ALCM), the EAG hosted the first ALCM Workshop on 27 June at RAF High Wycombe. Subject matter experts from France, Germany, Spain and NATO met for the first time within an EAG forum to discuss multinational training and employment options concerning European air-launched cruise missiles. In EAG terms, ALCM subject matter includes the SCALP/STORM SHADOW operated by the Royal Air Force, the Italian Air force and the French Air Force and the TAURUS stand-off missile in the inventory of the German and Spanish Air Forces.
The Workshop was fruitful and identified substantial common ground between the participants, particularly concerning planning cycles and the employment of ALCM. The EAG will therefore continue to explore this subject area, with the aim of improving multinational cooperation and effectiveness in a way that will be compatible with NATO procedures and planning cycles.
