This year, from 18 Jun to 20 Jun 2019, the Italian Air Force 16th Stormo “Protezione delle Forze” hosted the EAG Force Protection Seminar at the Academia Aeronautica in Pozzuoli, Italy. Force Protection Representatives from the EAG Nations, Norway, and HQ AIRCOM attended, briefed on national capabilities, shared operational experiences and informed the audience about new developments.
This year’s Seminar had the overall topic of “challenges for FP forces during critical situations, like e.g. terrorist attacks, in peace time operations and the cooperation with civilian organizations in such situations”. This thematic framework offered the opportunity to discuss and identify nation’s differences on how to operate and integrate with civilian agencies, and highlighted the importance of these specific considerations being included during the planning process of national and multinational Exercises and Operations.
On the second day, the participants had the opportunity to visit the 9th Stormo “Francesco Baracca” in Grazzanise, where, during a C-UAS demonstration, the Italian hosts demonstrated their current capability in this area. Furthermore, the “Fucilieri dell’Aria” presented their dedicated Force Protection equipment in static display. All participants agreed that the EAG FP Seminar not only remains an ideal forum to get a better understanding of other nations’ capabilities and challenges, but also to build an international network within the Air FP community, and possibly propose and discuss topics which may become new EAG projects.
